Former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov will travel to the United States to obtain funding for new defense projects.

Reuters reports this, citing an interlocutor close to Fedorov.

The journalistsʼ interlocutor denied that Fedorov wants to gain political support for the initiative to hold elections in Ukraine. He also said that he will not meet with American politicians or government officials.

The former defense minister plans to launch a number of projects related to the war and Ukrainian startups, the source added. One of these projects will be an investment fund. Fedorov also continues to communicate with American billionaire Elon Musk about the Starlink systems, but they do not plan to meet in the United States yet.

The former defense minister may travel to the United States next week, The Guardian reported.

  • On August 18, Mykhailo Fedorov recorded an address in which, among other things, he spoke about the upcoming elections. He stated that despite the protracted war, a mechanism must be found that “will allow Ukraine to restore a full-fledged democratic process” and “ensure the security of the electoral process, the independence of the institution, and trust in the result”.
  • Fedorovʼs resignation sparked a wave of protests in various cities in Ukraine that have been going on for over a month. On July 23, Volodymyr Zelensky said that he had offered former Defense Minister Fedorov the position of Deputy Prime Minister for Military Innovations, and before that, as the FT wrote, a position in the National Security and Defense Council, but he refused. Fedorov himself later said that he was ready to head only the Defense Ministry and was not considering any other positions.
