A team of archaeologists has discovered a "shrine" about 9,000 years old in a remote Neolithic site in Jordanʼs eastern desert.
This was reported by the Associated Press.
The ritual complex was found near the buildings, which were probably used for a detachment of wild animals. Such traps consist of two or more long stone walls that converge on a fence and are found in the deserts of the Middle East.
Inside the temple were two carved stones with anthropomorphic figures, as well as an altar, hearth, shells, and a miniature model of a trap for animals.
The researchersʼ statement said that the shrine "sheds a whole new light on the symbolism, artistic expression and spiritual culture of hitherto unknown peoples of the Neolithic era".
