The US Treasury Department will not renew the general license, which temporarily allowed Russia to make payments to service its foreign debt in dollars under sanctions.
The demand comes into force on the night of May 25, according to an official statement published on the website of the US Treasury Department.
The expiration of the general license means that Russia will not be able to legally pay its creditors. Financial institutions will regard this situation as a technical default.
