Former FSB general found dead in Moscow. He allegedly shot himself

Retired Russian FSB Major General Igor Laptev (83) was found dead in Moscow. He apparently committed suicide.

This is reported by Russian media.

Laptevʼs body was found on August 20 in his apartment on Verkhnyaya Krasnosilskaya Street. He had previously died from a gunshot wound to the head.

According to Russian media, Laptev fought in Afghanistan, first served in the KGB, and then in the FSB, where he was involved in “information security”. He then worked in the tax police, and in the late 1990s became deputy minister of taxes and duties.

Since 1998, Laptev has headed the board of directors of the company "Informtechnika i Zvyazyoks", which later became part of the "Informtechnika" group. The company produces software and hardware for computers, and among its largest customers are the Russian Ministries of Defense and Internal Affairs.
