The Dutch Data Protection Authority has fined Uber €825 million, the second largest EU fine imposed on a company since the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation in Europe.

The fine was imposed because the company automatically deactivated driversʼ accounts without warning. The company said it would appeal the decision.
These include cases where the system has automatically deactivated driversʼ accounts, for example due to inflated fares or suspected fraud. In the Netherlands, it is claimed that this affects driversʼ income, which they can lose without warning.
This fine is the second largest after the €1.2 billion Ireland imposed on Meta in 2023. It was imposed because Meta illegally transferred data of European Facebook users to the US.
