Two Romanian F-16 fighter jets were tracking an unidentified naval drone in Constanta near the Neptun Deep platform in the Black Sea.

This was reported by the Romanian Ministry of Defense.

The Defense Ministry noted that one of the fighters opened fire from its onboard cannon and destroyed the drone. The naval drone was reported by a merchant vessel at 06:28. It contained a warhead, the Romanian ministry added later.

A Romanian Coast Guard ship and naval sappers are to inspect the area where the drone was found. Romania also said the drone was not Ukrainian. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the incident a “hybrid war” and said there was a growing campaign of threats to intimidate the EU.

Also on the night of August 20, another drone crashed in Romania. It was spotted in a deserted area, approximately four kilometers northeast of the village of Grindu in Tulcea County.
