The European Union stated that Ukraine should decide when to hold elections, taking into account its own legislation. The EU stands ready to support Ukraine during the electoral process and help it meet democratic standards.

European Commission spokeswoman Anita Hiper said this during a briefing in Brussels, reports a Babel correspondent.

This is how she answered a question about the call of former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov to hold elections in Ukraine.

“It is not for us to decide. There is a constitutional basis, and Ukraine must decide for itself,” said a spokeswoman for the European Commission. She added that the EU is ready to support Ukraine throughout the electoral process, if necessary.

  • On August 18, Mykhailo Fedorov recorded an address in which, among other things, he spoke about the upcoming elections. He stated that despite the protracted war, a mechanism must be found that “will allow Ukraine to restore a full-fledged democratic process” and “ensure the security of the electoral process, the independence of the institution, and trust in the result”.
