Pro-Russian blogger Anatoly Shari was detained in Spain

In Spain, police detained pro-Russian blogger Anatoly Shariy, whom the Security Service of Ukraine suspects of treason. The Security Service of Ukraine announced the detention on May 5.

Sharia has been detained on May 4 thanks to the cooperation of Ukrainian law enforcement officers with international ones. In Ukraine, Shariy is suspected of treason and violation of equality of people.

The investigation has evidence confirmed by a number of expert studies that have established that Shariyʼs interviews and speeches contain facts about his subversive activities against Ukraine. The Securrity Service of Ukraine also has reason to believe that Shariy acted on behalf of foreign agencies.

Later, the presidentʼs representative in the Constitutional Court, and Member of Parliament Fedir Venislavsky, said that Ukraine is currently preparing documents for the extradition of Shariy.

"He was detained as part of international legal assistance in the search for Mr. Shariy for committing a number of serious crimes in Ukraine. Accordingly, the procedure of his extradition to Ukraine will be launched now, and he will appear before a Ukrainian court and will be held accountable under Ukrainian law," he said.

According to him, Shariy was detained in Europe so that the whole process will be carried out in accordance with the law, Shariy will have the opportunity to appeal the detention so that extradition may be delayed.

"But there is no doubt that he will definitely get to the territory of Ukraine and be handed over to justice," Venislavsky said.

• Anatoly Shariy is a former journalist who fled Ukraine in 2012 and was granted political asylum in Lithuania. He later started a political blog on YouTube. In the summer of 2019, while abroad, Shari announced the creation of a political party and called it the Sharia Party. The party is officially headed by his wife Olga. During martial law, President Volodymyr Zelensky banned the partyʼs activities.
