On June 11, the US Senate Armed Services Committee voted to continue security assistance to Ukraine and increase funding to $750 million within the 2027 defense budget.
This was reported by Reuters.
The Senate committee has completed its version of the National Defense Authorization Act ( NDAA ) with a total funding of $1.15 trillion. Of this, $750 million is earmarked for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), a program that finances the purchase of weapons from American companies for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The document also prohibits spending money on actions that recognize Russian sovereignty over Ukrainian territories and provides for the transfer of intelligence to Ukraine to support military operations.
This version of the bill also supports President Donald Trumpʼs idea to rename the Department of Defense to the Department of War.
The bill will then go to a vote in both houses of Congress, after which lawmakers must agree on a compromise version that will be re-approved by the House and Senate. In the final stage, the document will be sent to the White House for the US presidentʼs signature.
